The Failure of the February 20 Movement
Abstract
The geostrategic importance of Morocco necessitates proper understanding of its politics. Most importantly, it necessitates understanding any conditions that can lead to destabilize the closest geographic point connecting Africa and Europe that can greatly affect global economy and security. From this premise, this paper seeks to explain why the Arab Spring expression in Morocco that manifested itself in the February 20 movement has reached a dead end. This inquiry uses a qualitative method adopting structural functionalism as an approach. The relevantly encompassing nature of the approach allows us to examine the institutionalization question of the movement, important characteristics of its forces abroad and its intrinsic features to explain its failure.
